Petty named interim dean for Cato College
Teresa Petty will be the interim dean of the Cato College of Education, effective Jan. 16.Petty, who joined the University in 2005, has served as associate dean of the college since 2016. During her time at UNC Charlotte, she has contributed significantly to the college through scholarship focused on online teaching and learning and the impact of national board certification for teachers and their students.
UNC Charlotte to observe National First-Generation College Student Day
There are several ways to define a first-generation college student. Whether they’re the first in their family to attend college at all or the first to attend a four-year institution to attain a bachelor’s degree, there is no denying that first-generation students encounter unique experiences different from fellow students with family who can help them navigate college life.On Friday, Nov. 8, UNC Charlotte will celebrate its first-gens by joining other colleges and universities across the country in recognizing National First-Generation College Students Day.

Sibling undergrads work to preserve father’s dream
Two UNC Charlotte students, originally from Cuba, are helping to keep their father’s dream alive, and their story was featured recently on Charlotte Agenda.Manny Perez, a junior finance major, and his sister, Ana, who is studying political science, help their mother to operate Havana Carolina, a restaurant in Concord.The sibling undergraduates arrived in the United States from Cuba in 2015 with their parents Idael Pérez Maldonado and Dania Ochoa Hernandez.
Free film screening to highlight inspiring battle with multiple sclerosis

Veterans Day Observance: football, supply drive, park opening
Saturday, Nov. 2, is Military Appreciation Day as the Charlotte 49ers take on Middle Tennessee at 3:30 p.m. in Jerry Richardson Stadium. Data analytics firm launched at UNC Charlotte to expand, add 200 jobs
Stratifyd, a tech startup founded at UNC Charlotte, will expand its operations and add at least 200 jobs and move to a new 30,000-square-foot office located within an opportunity zone in Charlotte’s FreeMoreWest neighborhood.
Gymnast Gabby Douglas to talk ‘Balancing Life on the Beam’
Gabby Douglas, three-time world champion and Olympic gold medalist, will discuss her athletic career, Olympic journey and motivations at 7 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 5, in Popp Martin Student Union, Room 340.The Campus Activity Board (CAB) is hosting this free, public event; UNC Charlotte students will receive priority seating with their student IDs.“We are elated to have Gabby Douglas come to UNC Charlotte to speak to the student body about her story, accomplishing her goals and inspiring others,” said Jasmine Dove, CAB’s special events student coordinator.
Exhibition game benefits April 30 Remembrance Fund, 2020 community concert announced
On Friday, Oct. 25, several thousand fans packed Halton arena as the Charlotte 49ers hosted the Georgia Bulldogs in a benefit exhibition basketball game. Proceeds from the game went to the April 30th Remembrance Fund.
