Congressman Richard Hudson, UNC Charlotte alumnus (Class of 1996) and former student body president, met with members of the EPIC Advisory Board April 17 to talk about energy issues and his work on the U.S. House of Representatives Energy and Commerce Committee. He also had the opportunity to gather members’ input and feedback on issues and challenges in the energy sector.

The 15th annual Graduate Research Symposium (GRS) was held recently in the J. Murrey Atkins Library.  This student-run conference showcased current student research taking place at UNC Charlotte.  First-place winners received $800 each.

UNC Charlotte recently celebrated the re-opening of the Cone Plaza with music, food, prizes, giveaways and more.

A retirement survival course will be offered from 8:30 a.m. to 4:45 p.m., Friday, May 15, at UNC Charlotte Center City.

This one-day UNC Charlotte continuing education course will teach attendees fundamental principles to ensure their money lasts. Participants will learn how to better manage their investments, consider taxes when making decisions, increase monthly income; protect their life’s savings from investment mistakes and prepare for the biggest risks they might face in retirement.

The process to update the University City Area Plan, which includes the development of light-rail stations near and on the UNC Charlotte campus, received public support recently during a public-comment with the Charlotte City Council.

Robert Wilhelm, vice chancellor for research and economic development, stated at the meeting, that the plan update “will be critical in linking the University to nearby employment centers and business district.”

The Charlotte 49ers 2015 Green-White Spring Game will start at 6 p.m., Saturday, April 18, at Jerry Richardson Stadium. The game will wrap up the 2015 spring practice season under head coach Brad Lambert.

It also will be the first game played under stadium lights added earlier this year.  The lights will allow more flexibility in scheduling game times and make the Charlotte 49ers available for greater television exposure through Conference USA’s television package, according to officials with the Charlotte 49ers.

“Suicide by Cop” is an anthology that takes a comprehensive view of civilian deaths caused by police officers and the aftermath of such incidents. It examines the psychological foundations and motivations of people who try to provoke the police into killing them and considers the appropriate criteria for classifying an incident as a “suicide by cop” (SbC).

Many of North Carolina’s school superintendents are skeptical of the General Assembly’s education policies, according to a new UNC Charlotte survey.

The survey of 67 N.C. superintendents, published in the Journal of Applied Educational and Policy Research, examined attitudes on state and national educational concerns.  The study indicated “the most significant priorities that need to be addressed were teacher morale, inadequate funding and teacher pay.”

The UNC Charlotte Center for Real Estate and Urban Land Institute Charlotte will hold “Navigating Private Equity Capital Markets” at 1 p.m., Wednesday, April 22, at UNC Charlotte Center City.

This afternoon symposium will feature an inside view of how today’s capital providers assess real estate investment opportunities and what they see for the future.
