Four UNC Charlotte alumni on list of ‘Forty Under 40’

UNC Charlotte alumni Benjamin Collins, Laura Clark, Ryan Doherty and Julie Harris were honored recently by the Charlotte Business Journal as members of its “Forty Under 40.” The listing recognizes “young professionals who are making major strides in their careers and having a positive impact on their communities.”

Chancellor, student body president to hold campus discussion

Chancellor Philip Dubois will hold an interactive discussion with the student body at 11:30 a.m., Thursday, March 19,  in the Student Union Rotunda.  The annual “Chancellor’s Lunchtime Student Talk” is an opportunity for students to discuss current issues facing the University and direct questions to the chancellor and campus administrators.

Following the chancellor’s remarks, Student Body President Steven Serio will deliver his “State of the University” address .

The event is hosted by the Student Government Association. Free food will be provided.

2015 Employees of the Year named at annual Staff Recognition Luncheon

Cole Carter, Tina Dadio, Solomon Franklin and Kurt Richter are the 2015 Employees of the Year. They were honored at the annual Staff Recognition Luncheon, held Wednesday, March 11, in the Student Union Multipurpose Room.

South Entrance construction under way

Inside UNC Charlotte, in February, published an article about construction projects that will enhance the campus traffic flow. Work has started at the University’s South Entrance (intersection of University City and Cameron Boulevards).

A traffic signal is slated for this intersection, which will improve entering/exiting the campus. The project has a targeted completion date of August 2015. 

Connaughton forecasts sixth consecutive year of growth for N.C. economy

The North Carolina economy is expected to experience its sixth consecutive year of economic growth in 2015, UNC Charlotte economist John Connaughton reported March 11 in his quarterly forecast for the state.

N.C. Gross State Product (GSP) is forecasted to record an annualized real growth rate of 3.0 percent over the 2014 level. The 3.0 percent growth expected in 2015 will mark the first year since 2006 that the state’s economy grew by at least 3.0 percent.

The three-year initiative KEEPING WATCH enters its second year with “KEEPING WATCH on WATER: City of Creeks.” Events begin with an exhibition opening on Friday, March 27, at the Projective Eye Gallery at UNC Charlotte Center City.

Ongoing evaluations, separate evaluations or some combination of the two are monitoring activities used to determine whether each of the five components of internal control, including controls to affect the principles within each component, is present and functioning.

Erevelles, King to guest on March 12 ‘Live Wire’

Sunil Erevelles, chair of the Marketing Department in the Belk College of Business, and Dolly King, chair of the Department of Finance and the Rush Dickson Professor of Finance in the Belk College of Business, will be the guests on the March 12 edition of “The Live Wire,” Inside UNC Charlotte’s streaming webcast. Erevelles  will discuss the Marketing Department and an executive education session in March on innovation.

McKinley wins award for best book on S.C. history

Historian Shepherd McKinley’s book “Stinking Stones and Rocks of Gold: Phosphate, Fertilizer and Industrialization in Postbellum South Carolina” was named the winner of the South Carolina Historical Society’s 2014 George Rogers Jr. Book Award as the best book about South Carolina history published last year.
