Enrollment opens for award-winning ‘Leadership Experience’
The Human Resources Department is accepting applications for the 2014 edition of its award-winning “The Leadership Experience.”
This 56-hour program, held in seven sessions, is designed for University employees who lead/supervise individuals or teams. Earlier this year, the College and University Processional Association named “The Leadership Experience” its recipient of a national Award of Excellence for Human Resources Best Practices.
CCI’s Hasan to defend dissertation
Mohammad Rashedul Hasan, a doctoral student in computing and information systems in the College of Computing and Informatics, will defend “Topology-aware Approach for the Emergence of Social Norms in Multi-agent Systems” at 1 p.m., Thursday, June 26, in Woodward Hall, Room 338. Anita Raja is the dissertation advisor.
CTI receives grant from Wells Fargo
Wells Fargo has awarded a $50,000 grant to the Charlotte Teachers Institute (CTI), an innovative partnership among Davidson College, UNC Charlotte, and Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools (CMS). The purpose of this partnership is to empower classroom teachers through the cultivation of content knowledge, creativity, leadership and collaboration.
Students finish among tops at national billiard, table tennis tournaments
UNC Charlotte students demonstrated their skills at the annual Association of College Unions International billiard and table tennis tournaments.
“Our students represented UNC Charlotte with excellence in competition and sportsmanship,” said James Contratto, assistant director of student activities for weekend programs.
In the men’s 9-ball billiards competition, UNC Charlotte’s David Anderson took second place among a field of 50 players.
OIP to host FIFA World Cup screenings
The Office of International Programs, in conjunction with the International Student/Scholar Office and the International Club, will host screenings of the 2014 FIFA World Cup opening ceremony/game and finals/closing ceremony in Norm’s in the Student Union.
The opening ceremony/first game will be from 3 to 6 p.m., Thursday, June 12. The finals/closing ceremony will be shown starting at 3 p.m., Sunday, July 13.
“Come join us to watch great games, enjoy refreshments and cheer your team at the most-watched sporting event in the world,” said OIP’s Sayra Brynn.
Annual raffles to reward efforts to reduce air pollution
The UNC Charlotte Energy and Environmental Assistance Office again is offering incentives to faculty and staff members to help improve Charlotte air quality during the summer ozone season.
2014 football season tickets on sale
Season tickets for 2014 Charlotte 49ers football are now available to the public through the Charlotte 49ers Ticket Office. All tickets for the University’s second football season can be purchased online at Charlotte49ers.com.
Six home games will be contested at Richardson Stadium, beginning with the opener on Saturday, Sept. 6, against Johnson C. Smith, followed a few weeks later by a game against Charleston Southern (Sept. 27) as part of Niner Nation Family Weekend.
Goldfield to give presentation at Charlotte Mecklenburg Library
David Goldfield, the Robert Lee Bailey Professor of History, will participate in the Charlotte Mecklenburg Library’s “Lunch at the Library” speaker series. His talk is scheduled for noon, Thursday, June 19, at the main library (310 N. Tryon St.).
Goldfield has written 16 books on the history of the American South, including “America Aflame: How the Civil War Created a Nation.” Two of his works have been nominated for the Pulitzer Prize in history, and he serves as a consultant to museums and the U.S. Department of State on the social and political history of the South.
Doster, Wartham among area’s most influential women
Betty Doster and Amy Wartham recently were named to the list of 50 Most Influential Women by the Mecklenburg Times. The publication solicited nominees from the community, and an independent panel of judges selected the final honorees.
Doster is special assistant to the chancellor for constituent relations, and Wartham is director of corporate training in the Office of Continuing Education. This is the second time that Wartham was chosen for inclusion to the list.
