The CRI Deck 1, the University’s largest single parking structure, received an Award of Merit from the Carolinas Parking Association Awards of Excellence competition.
The first four-bay deck on campus, the CRI Deck 1 has 1,343 parking spaces. Features include induction lighting, white-stained ceilings, integrated bicycle lockers, RFID-operated gates, a bus pull-off area and visitor parking with two pay-on-foot kiosks. It also is pre-wired to accommodate electric vehicle chargers.

Jeffrey Toobin, senior analyst for CNN, will be the featured guest for the third annual Chancellor’s Speaker Series, scheduled for 7 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 15, at UNC Charlotte Center City.

The Charlotte 49ers come-from-behind 53-51 victory over 24th-ranked Gardner-Webb University (GWU) had to be seen to be believed.
Charlotte (4-2) was hosting its first ranked opponent at Jerry Richardson Stadium — and the Runnin’ Bulldogs (4-2) were enjoying a 21-point lead heading into the fourth quarter. But from the moment the fourth quarter started, things changed.  As much as the 49ers first-ever game more than a month ago followed a storybook script, this was something else.
 Unscripted.  Unplugged. Unbelievable.

UNC Charlotte’s entry for the 2013 Solar Decathlon, UrbanEden, is on display in Irvine, Calif. The University is one of 20 academic teams from around the world competing in the U.S. Department of Energy contest.
The Solar Decathlon features a series of 10 contests for each team, tasked with building a solar-powered house that incorporates energy-efficient construction and appliances as well as renewable energy systems.

The inaugural “50 to 50 Military Appreciation Relay Run” will be Saturday, Oct. 5, and it involves a series of runners transporting the game ball for the Charlotte vs. Gardner-Webb football matchup from Boiling Springs to Charlotte (nearly 60 miles). 
The event is in conjunction with Military Appreciation Day at UNC Charlotte and is a joint effort by the ROTC programs at the two institutions, which includes the Military Science and Aerospace Studies Departments – Army and Air Force.

Prior to the noon kickoff of the Charlotte 49ers game against Gardner-Webb on Saturday, Oct. 5, a ceremony will dedicate a street near Jerry Richardson Stadium in honor of Malcolm “Mac” Everett.
The 11 a.m. ceremony will designate the stretch of road Mac Everett Way in tribute to the longtime supporter of the University and its athletic programs.

The Multicultural Resource Center (MRC) encourages the campus community to celebrate the life and work of LGBTQ people on National Coming Out Day during a celebration from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Friday, Oct. 11, in the Student Union Rotunda.
Students will have the opportunity to tell their own stories about coming out and to collect those stories to be included in the LGBTQ Community Archive at UNC Charlotte. Individuals who want to show their support of the LGBTQ community can sign a banner to hang in the Student Union following the event.

Charles Willie, the Charles William Eliot Professor of Education, emeritus, at Harvard University, will give the fifth annual Bertha Maxwell-Roddey Distinguished Africana Lecture at 3:30 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 16, in EPIC, Room G256.
Willie, a noted sociologist, has researched desegregation, high education, public health, race relations, urban community problems and family life. Before joining Harvard University in 1974, he was a faculty member and administrator at Syracuse University for more than 25 years.

UNC Charlotte students can apply for paid internships to work with a faculty or staff mentor through the University Professional Internship Program (UPIP).
This unique program, possible through the joint efforts of the University Career Center (UCC) and sponsoring academic departments, is designed to engage undergraduate students in academically relevant, on-campus work while earning both academic credit and pay, said Carrie Silver, UPIP program manager.

The Office of Academic Affairs has created the Office of Assessment and Accreditation, which will be led by its executive director, Christine Robinson.
