Architecture alumna wins AIA Film challenge grand prize
Architecture alumna Claire Shue ’19 is member of the team awarded the Grand Prize in the 2022 American Institute of Architects Film Challenge. The team’s film, “a dream starts here,” was created to build support for a community center in Calhoun Falls, South Carolina.
Shue is one of the project leads for the Dream Center, the subject of the film, which will repurpose a dilapidated building and revitalize the center of the small, declining town.

Bojan Cukic has been named dean for the College of Computing and Informatics, effective Dec. 1. Cukic has served UNC Charlotte for eight years, most recently as interim dean of the College of Computing and Informatics.
A message of care for the campus community
Dear Niners,
Over the last two weekends, tragic acts of violence have unfolded on campuses and in communities across the country. An attack left four students at the University of Idaho dead, a gunman took the lives of three UVA football players and injured two other students — including another member of the football team — and most recently, there was a shooting at Club Q, an LGTBQIA+ nightclub, in Colorado Springs.
Our hearts grieve with the families, friends and communities affected by these senseless acts.

Francis “Biff” Poggi is the Charlotte 49ers’ third head football coach. Most recently, he was associate head coach of the undefeated Michigan Wolverines. A key architect behind the Wolverines’ 2021 Big Ten Championship and berth in the College Football Playoffs, Poggi has helped Michigan to a 10-0 start and a spot among the nation’s top four ranked schools this season.

UNC Charlotte is partnering with online open course provider Coursera to offer students free access to Grow with Google career certificates. Certificate programs in digital marketing and ecommerce, IT support, data analytics, project management and UX design will be available to supplement coursework in academic programs as well as give Charlotte students a competitive workforce advantage.
