 It’s been a sizzling spring and summer for UNC Charlotte Professor Mark West, as his three new books have all been listed as Amazon “Hot New Releases.”

“I am amazed,” said West, Bonnie E. Cone Professor in Civic Engagement and professor in the Department of English.

The College of Arts + Architecture is the 2022 Dick Robinson Award for Excellence as the Mid-Carolina Regional Art Affiliate of the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards.

Avangelyne “Angel” Padilla and Jeremiah Williams have been named 2022 Marian Drane Graham Scholars by the UNC System.

Padilla and Williams will join two other scholars from the UNC System for an eight-week immersive and experiential summer program, designed to help them develop leadership skills and gain a better understanding of key issues facing public higher education.

Celebrity event designer Lance Devereux ’10 shines on VH1’s hit reality competition “My Celebrity Dream Wedding.”

Tenor Brian Arreola will perform the lead tenor role of Yoshizo in the Japanese opera “Hebionna” (Snake Woman) by Asako Hirabayashi. The opera will have its world premiere June 27 in a production in Rowe Recital Hall and will be filmed for future distribution. The performance is the latest project in Arreola’s ongoing creative research of music by Asian and Asian-American composers.

Valentina Cecchi, associate professor and graduate program director in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, has been named honorary consul of Italy to the state of North Carolina.
