Register now for second Chancellor’s Fishing Derby
Employee anglers get ready; the second Chancellor’s Fishing Derby will be Saturday, Oct. 7, at Hechenbleikner Lake, near the main entrance to campus.
Chancellor Philip L. Dubois, Recreational Services and the UNC Charlotte Bass Fishing Club are hosting this special family-friendly faculty/staff event.
Fun, prizes, refreshments and T-shirts are all part of this scheduled offering. The tournament is a catch-and-release event; no fishing license is required.
Registrants can participate in one or both of the 75-minute sessions, which will begin at 8:30 and 10 a.m., Oct. 7. The cost is $10 per spot/per session; the additional session is $8 if an employee registers for both.
Prizes will be awarded for:
- Most fish caught
- Heaviest largemouth bass
- Youngest participant to catch a fish
- Distance casting (ground competition)
Winners could “land” a pair of chancellor’s box seats to a 2017 Charlotte 49ers home football game, 2017-18 men’s basketball game or gift certificates from Barnes & Noble at UNC Charlotte.
All proceeds support the UNC Charlotte Bass Fishing Team. More details are on the web.
Event co-sponsors are Riley’s Catch, Barnes & Noble at UNC Charlotte, Bass Pro Shops, Canteen, Farm Bureau, Pepsi, the Popp Martin Student Union and Cone University Center.
Organizers plan for the derby to become an annual fall classic; the inaugural Chancellor’s Fishing Derby was held March 25, 2017; it had been planned for October 2016, but weather concerns related to Hurricane Matthew resulted in it being postponed.
