Inclusivity is theme for employer showcase and mixer

Monday, October 2, 2017

The Multicultural Resource Center and University Career Center will co-host an “Inclusivity Employer Showcase and Mixer” on Thursday, Oct. 26, for UNC Charlotte students.

This two-part event will begin at 11 a.m. at the Popp Martin Student Union Rotunda. Students will have the chance to speak with 12 employers whose organizations have a focus on inclusivity. Company representatives will discuss their work as students learn about jobs and internships available in the Charlotte area.

“This is a way for students and alumni to network for jobs and internships with employers, while also knowing that those present provide a workplace culture that celebrates diversity,” said Matthew French, career advisor for liberal arts and sciences. “I am a firm believer that everyone deserves a welcoming and supportive workplace. In my opinion, the coming together of multiple viewpoints and life experiences makes a company or organization more innovative and the Inclusivity Mixer hopes to encourage this type of workplace.”

The Inclusivity Mixer will begin at 5 p.m. in the Halton Reading Room of the Atkins Library.  Free for students, the mixer will enable participants to network and interact with a diverse group of peers, employers and alumni; cocktail attire or business casual dress is requested.

Jermaine and Sarah Milledge will be guest speakers at these events. Married for nearly six years, the Milledges are passionate about the American with Disabilities Act and inclusion for all. Jermaine Milledge is the assistive technology instructor for Charlotte’s Division of Services for the Blind, an organization that helps those who are visually impaired, blind and deaf-blind reach their goals of independence and employment. Sarah Milledge works for the Metrolina Association for the Blind, a nonprofit agency that has been providing services to blind and visually impaired people since 1934.

The 49er Family Fund is sponsoring this event; visit the Multicultural Resource Center and  University Career Center websites for more information.
