A record 5,100-plus students to be recognized at Spring Commencement
On Friday and Saturday, May 10-11, UNC Charlotte will hold Spring Commencement ceremonies for 2024 graduates in Dale F. Halton Arena. During four ceremonies, the University will recognize what is expected to be a record-breaking class.
15th class of Levine Scholars to join UNC Charlotte
UNC Charlotte’s Levine Scholars Program has selected 20 exceptional young leaders from across the United States for the 15th class of the University’s most competitive academic scholarship. The scholars will join UNC Charlotte in fall 2024.

CHESS department undergoes name change
The Department of Geography and Earth Sciences was renamed the Department of Earth, Environmental and Geographical Sciences, effective April 9.
This name change more accurately represents the collaborative approach within the department, said John Smail, interim dean of the College of Humanities & Earth and Social Sciences.

The power of knowledge and information: Charlotte’s Rodney Freeman is chronicling the history of Black librarians
Digital production librarian Rodney Freeman Jr. spends the workday archiving photos, films, documents and other materials that are within the collections of UNC Charlotte’s Atkins Library. In his free time, he is pursuing a passion project — a documentary focused on Black librarianship.
Heggestad named inaugural associate provost for faculty affairs
Eric D. Heggestad, a professor of psychological science and organizational science at UNC Charlotte, has been named the inaugural associate provost for faculty affairs, effective July 1. In this new role, he will lead institutional strategies aimed at supporting faculty success and ensuring an exemplary academic experience for all faculty members.
