Johnson Alumni Way honors dedicated donors Gene and Vickie Johnson
Gene Johnson ’73 unveiled Johnson Alumni Way during Homecoming Saturday with the Pride of Niner Nation Marching Band watching. It was only fitting that the band be there; it was a generous donation from Gene and his wife Vickie ’71 ’82 that made the Pride of Niner Nation possible.

Retired faculty member creates fund to support nursing research
Ann Mabe Newman ’78 dedicated much of her 34-year teaching career to nursing research. Now in retirement, her devotion to that effort and to the School of Nursing continues through a $25,000 gift established in her name.The Ann Mabe Newman Research Support Fund will help faculty members write grants. It is a significant step in support of a long-term goal to establish a Ph.D. program in nursing.During her 30 years as an associate professor, Newman participated in grant writing and knows the difficulties involved.

Fulbright to give alumnus opportunity to grow community
Harry Gilliard ’11 accompanied American University students to Havana, Cuba, in March, to study the intersections of culture, religion, history and economics. In 2020, he is heading to Brazil through a Fulbright English Teaching Assistantship.
