It started with a cardboard box.

The box, which followed the UNC Charlotte School of Nursing from its first home in the Belk Gym to its current home in the College of Health and Human Services, contained precious memorabilia that detailed the program’s 50-year history.

UNC Charlotte faculty and staff members answered the call again for this year’s annual Giving Green campaign. Contributions totaled $248,928, and the campaign reached a milestone of 1,010 unique faculty and staff donors.

Flu season is upon the country once again. This October marked the 100th anniversary of the Influenza Epidemic (Spanish Flu) of 1918 in North Carolina, and there are lessons to be learned from the historic event.

Ann Mabe Newman and Dona Haney co-authored “Miss Bonnie’s Nurses: The First Fifty Years of Nursing at UNC Charlotte,” and they will discuss the work at 10 a.m., Thursday, Nov. 8, in the Atkins Library, Halton Reading Room.

As the lead engineer on a $2 billion airport improvement project, UNC Charlotte alumnus Ashton Watson is involved in all types of engineering, on all types of capital jobs, with all types of stakeholders.

UNC Charlotte’s young alumni waste no time in making marks in their fields and in the community, as evidenced by the inaugural 10 Under Ten Award winners – among them: a creative designer working in Los Angeles,; a fashion designer who styles Charlotte executives and a YouTube show host using her media platform to spread positive vibes.

The eighth annual Excellence in Leadership Awards were bestowed upon six outstanding alumni at a campus luncheon held in the Harris Alumni Center at Johnson Glen on Friday, Oct. 12.

Wesley Sweigart and Katie Warlick recently received the Elijah Watt Sells Award in recognition of their cumulative score across all fours sections of the Certified Public Accounting Examination.

As part of Homecoming celebrations, the Belk College of Business honored four alumni and friends for their accomplishments, service and dedication to the college.

The UNC Charlotte Belk College Alumni Awards recognize alumni and advocates who have demonstrated leadership and outstanding career achievements and enhanced the mission of the college. The North Carolina Association for Colleges and Teacher Educators (NCACTE) has named recent UNC Charlotte dance alumna Makayla Church the 2018 Student Teacher of the Year. Church received the award at the 36th annual North Carolina Teacher Education Forum, “Celebrating Our Professional Identity: Shared Knowledge and Advocacy” held in Raleigh.
