Belk College honors four outstanding alumni/friends

As part of Homecoming celebrations, the Belk College of Business honored four alumni and friends for their accomplishments, service and dedication to the college.

The UNC Charlotte Belk College Alumni Awards recognize alumni and advocates who have demonstrated leadership and outstanding career achievements and enhanced the mission of the college. Sponsored by the Belk College of Business Alumni Council, the awards were bestowed to four individuals in these categories:

Dance education graduate wins 2018 N.C. Student Teacher of the Year

The North Carolina Association for Colleges and Teacher Educators (NCACTE) has named recent UNC Charlotte dance alumna Makayla Church the 2018 Student Teacher of the Year. Church received the award at the 36th annual North Carolina Teacher Education Forum, “Celebrating Our Professional Identity: Shared Knowledge and Advocacy” held in Raleigh.

Connect with the campus during Traditions Walk, part of UNC Charlotte’s Founders Day festivities

Members of Niner Nation know that UNC Charlotte was founded on Sept. 23, 1946, as the Charlotte Center, an evening college to educate the scores of veterans returning to the area after World War II. In honor of UNC Charlotte’s 72nd birthday, the Office of Alumni Affairs is encouraging students to take the Traditions Walk, a short tour of a few of the University’s notable sites.

Four graduates among Charlotte Agenda’s 30 Under 30 list

Charlotte Agenda recently released its 2018 Class of 30 Under 30 leaders who are making their impact on the Queen City, and four UNC Charlotte graduates made the list.

Khalia Braswell ’16 is executive director of INTech Foundation Inc. A computer engineer and former user experience engineer at Apple, she is reaching hundreds of African American girls with programs around learning to code. She completed a master’s degree in information technology from UNC Charlotte.

Calling all 49er ACEs

The newly formed 49er ACE (Alumni Campus Employee) group recently gathered for an end of summer reception at the Harris Alumni Center at Johnson Glen. Currently, there are more than 600 faculty and staff members who are proud UNC Charlotte alumni.

Alumna leading CCI NorthState mentoring program

Der Vang ’11 recently was named director of mentoring in the College of Computing and Informatics. In this role, she will oversee the NorthState CCI Mentorship Program, which was created by a gift from the communications/information technology company to EXPONENTIAL: The Campaign for UNC Charlotte. The program will benefit CCI students by providing guidance on personal, social and academic matters.

The Cato College of Education is making organizational moves to strengthen relationships with alumni and school and community partners, which play critical roles in the college’s mission.
