Atkins Library schedules book sale
The J. Murrey Atkins Library is holding a book sale Friday and Saturday, Feb. 28-29, in the Halton Reading Room.More than 5,000 duplicated and selected items will be on sale, including academic monographs, paperbacks, children’s literature, LPs, DVDs and more.The sale will be open to just the campus community from 9 a.m. to noon, Feb.28. The public is invited from noon to 7 p.m., Feb. 28, and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Feb. 29

Atkins Library book club to explore diversity/inclusion
The Atkins Library Diversity & Inclusion Committee is sponsoring a University-wide book club that will focus on diversity and cultural topics to spark conversations around inclusivity, equity and awareness of human differences in today’s society.The club, created at the recommendation of the provost, is open to all faculty, staff and students. Ryan Harris, head of research and instructional services, will facilitate the first discussion, scheduled for 4 to 6 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 30, in the library’s Halton Reading Room.
Looby needs shared leave
Kimberly Looby, Atkins Library, needs shared leave donations. The Benefits Office will accept donations through Dec. 4.To contribute leave, faculty and staff should refer to the requirements and participant forms in Personnel Information Memorandum (PIM) 29 or in the literature racks outside of the Benefits Office, King Building, Room 207. Oral history project holding drop-in sessions
Students, faculty, staff and community members will have the opportunity to share their thoughts on the April 30 campus shooting and subsequent response through the Niner Nation Remembers Oral History Project. By collecting first-hand accounts from individuals affected by the tragedy, UNC Charlotte will be able to preserve the memories and the vital historical context they provide.Participants can share their experiences in private from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m., Tuesday and Wednesday, Oct. 29-30, in Atkins Library’s Area 49 recording studio on the UNC Charlotte campus.

Atkins Library hosting the exhibit ‘Graphic Medicine’
“Graphic Medicine: Ill-Conceived and Well-Drawn” is a traveling exhibit from the History of Medicine Division of the National Library of Medicine. This display, which explores a field of literacy in which comics tell personal stories of illness and health, will be exhibited on the library’s first floor through Sunday, Nov. 24.

Dance professor wins Atkins Library Faculty Engagement Award
Kaustavi Sarkar, assistant professor of dance, is the recipient of the 2019 J. Murrey Atkins Library Faculty Engagement Award.

Dean’s microscope collection on display
Tom Reynolds’ early childhood fascination in microscopy turned into a collection of antique and vintage microscopes, which are on display in the J. Murrey Atkins Library.
Reynolds, associate provost and dean of the Graduate School, amassed nearly 150 microscopes and accessories during the past 30 years. They primarily represent those from the 19th-century English genre.

Atkins Library reduced hours through May 12
Due to the change in exam schedules, Atkins Library is reducing hours of operation through the end of the academic year:
Friday, May 3 – Close at 10 p.m.
Saturday, May 4 – 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Sunday, May 5 – 10 a.m. to midnight
Monday through Thursday, May 6-9 – 7:30 a.m. to midnight
Friday, May 10 – 7:30 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Saturday, May 11 – 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Sunday, May 12 -1 to 5 p.m.

Atkins Library employee volunteers to ‘rock out,’ more organized opportunities in May
Chesney Klubert ’14 has volunteered with Girls Rock Charlotte for five years and has watched the nonprofit grow from a summer camp for girls age 8-16 to a year-round experience that now reaches out to adult women.
Dalton Tower stairwell closure extended
Stairwell no. 3 that provides access to the Atkins Library’s Dalton Tower will be through Wednesday, Feb. 20. This temporary closure is to install a new HVAC unit as part of the Atkins Library Special Collections project.
Signage will direct patrons to use Stairwell no. 4.
