Temporary power outage scheduled for Academic Complex

On Saturday, Feb. 2, there will be a complete power outage in the Academic Complex to allow for the installation of new electrical panels as part of the complex renovation project.

There will be no access to the buildings (Barnard, Denny, Garinger, Macy, and Winningham).

University again designated Tree Campus USA institution

For the fifth consecutive year, UNC Charlotte has earned the Tree Campus USA Award. Given by the Arbor Day Foundation, this national honor recognizes colleges and universities that are committed to urban forest management and that engage staff and students in conservation goals.

Established in 2008 by the Arbor Day Foundation, Tree Campus USA currently has more than 250 colleges and universities that have achieved this distinction.

Northbound lane of Mary Alexander to close temporarily

Between 3 and 6 p.m., Friday, Jan. 25, the northbound lane of Mary Alexander Road, along with the sidewalk in front of Sycamore Hall, will close temporarily to allow the placement of concrete as part of the renovation project for Sycamore Hall.

Expect a concrete truck and pump truck to block the lane; flaggers will direct two-way traffic around the closure.

Pedestrians should use the sidewalks on the west side of the roadway. Remember to exercise caution when approaching constructions zones.

49ers4Life Blood Drive expands to two days

The 2019 49ers4Life Blood Drive is a two-day affair, and campus organizers and sponsors anticipate this change will enable the University to reach its goal of 1,000 pints of blood collected. This year’s drive, which is being held in conjunction with the American Red Cross, will be from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., Tuesday and Wednesday, Jan. 29-30, in the Barnhardt Student Activity Center.

Lower Level Union Deck gate system to go online

Effective Thursday, Jan. 17, the license plate recognition and gate system for the Union Deck Levels 1-4 goes online.

Gates will be down, opening only for those with valid commuter or faculty/staff permits. Resident student permits are not valid in the Union Deck before 6 p.m.

When entering the deck, be aware of overhead LED lane indicators. Entry and exit lanes change throughout the day in order to better manage traffic flow: two entrances and one exit during morning hours and one entrance and two exits in the afternoon.
