The Center for Professional and Applied Ethics is holding a series of Zoom events as part of the series “Models for Equitable Minority Inclusion in Institutional Research.”

For the past four years, the UNC Charlotte Summer Reading Camp welcomed elementary students from Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools (CMS), providing daily, one-on-one literacy support for rising second and third graders who struggle with reading.

National Volunteer Week is an observance UNC Charlotte has acknowledged, celebrated and participated in for several years. For 2020, volunteering and connecting with the community will be different. However, there are some opportunities for employees to give back without leaving home.

A new program is connecting UNC Charlotte experts with school counselors in Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools (CMS) to provide professional development in designing curriculum for critical classroom lessons.

Three Charlotte universities are banding together to support racial healing and transformation. As the Charlotte Racial Justice Consortium, UNC Charlotte, Johnson C. Smith University and Queens University of Charlotte will collaborate to listen to Charlotte’s many racial truths; encourage a community that understands its history of race and racism; and develop student, university and community leaders who work across the region toward truth, racial healing and equity.

Margaret Commins, an associate professor in the Political Science and Sociology Department at Queens University, is the second speaker of the 2020 Great Decisions Lecture Series.  Her free public presentation is set for 6:30 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 29, at UNC Charlotte Center City.Commins will discuss Michael Shifter and Bruno Binetti’s article from the Foreign Policy Association’s Great Decisions 2020 Briefing Book, “U.S. Relations with the Northern Triangle,” and bring in elements from her research to the presentation.

As the fall semester came to a close, Marc Manack, associate professor of architecture, and students in his class “Good Fast Cheap” worked to bring a community’s vision to life.

A unique partnership between UNC Charlotte and Charlotte Ballet enables students like Rose Wuertz to earn both a bachelor’s degree in dance and a professional training certificate in dance.

Senior Neariah Mandisa-Drummond is the 2019 recipient of the John H. Barnhill Civic Trailblazer Award.
