Spirion software added to computers

Spirion Sensitive Data Finder is now available on faculty/staff computers. This software allows employees to search their computers for Social Security numbers (SSN) and credit card information.

New Leadership Experience cohort announced

Learning and Organizational Development has named the 2017 Leadership Experience cohort. The award-winning program encourages participants to deepen their understanding of how to move from managing to leading, while building relationships based on trust and mutual respect.

Temporary lane closure near Union Deck

Starting at noon, Thursday, July 27, there will be a lane closure at the entrance/exit to the first floor Union Deck at Cameron Boulevard.

Expect heavy construction equipment and personnel in the area as workers install an underground pipe in preparation for the expansion of the Union Deck. The temporary lane closure is expected to last through 5 p.m., Saturday, July 29.

Remember to exercise caution when approaching construction zones.

Candy Shoppe to close

July 31 marks the final day of operation for the Candy Shoppe, located in the Cone University Center.

Take advantage of special pricing on all remaining candies, drinks and popcorn with items on sale like it’s 1985, said Donna Merck, associate director of the Cone Center.

Parking Lot 19 to close

Effective 8 p.m., Friday, July 28, Parking Lot 19 will close permanently; the lot is the site for the planned Health and Wellness Center, which will begin construction in the near future.

The Union Deck (levels 1-4), East Decks 2 and 3 and West Deck are the closest alternatives for the remainder of summer for individuals who would normally park in Lot 19.

 

Veteran University Advancement employee Betty Stancil dies

Betty Sue McCachren Stancil, 78, died Wednesday, July 19, at Tucker Hospice House of Cabarrus County.

Stancil began her 43-year career with UNC Charlotte in 1974 in the-then Placement Office, helping students find jobs upon graduation. In 1990, she moved to the Office of Alumni Affairs where she worked as the assistant to the executive director. She retired from full-time service in 2003 and continued immediately in a permanent part-time role.

Interruptions to password manager, sponsored guest requests scheduled

The password manager site will be down temporarily starting at 5 p.m., Thursday, July 27, through 8 a.m., Monday, July 31, for a system upgrade. ITS will adjust account expiration dates to accommodate customers; however, employees who receive notifications to change passwords should go ahead and do so to avoid potential issues.  

The “sponsored guest” account request process will be unavailable from 5 p.m., Friday, July 21, through 8 a.m., Monday, July 31, and is changing significantly.

Information on state-approved salary increases and bonus leave

The North Carolina General Assembly’s recently approved biennial state budget included several provisions affecting UNC Charlotte employees. Below is information on salary increases and bonus leave. Additional information will be shared as it becomes available.

Salary increases

SHRA
SHRA permanent employees will receive a $1,000 salary increase (also known as a “legislative increase”). The increase will be effective July 1 and should begin appearing in the July 31 payroll, retroactive to July 1.
