Celebrate National Nutrition Month

The Advisory Committee to the Chancellor for Employee Health and Wellness is partnering with UNC Charlotte Dining Services to celebrate National Nutrition Month. From noon to 2 p.m., Tuesday, March 15, SoVi Dining Hall will offer new, exciting menu items at the various stations.

Also, registered dietitian Beth Mack will be on hand to answer questions about nutrition and mindful eating and provide tips to improve one’s diet. Nutritional information and other healthy eating resources will be displayed, too.

‘Spring into Wellness’ among upcoming ACCEHW offerings

The Advisory Committee to the Chancellor for Employee Health and Wellness (ACCEHW) will offer the four-week initiative “Spring into Wellness” starting Sunday, March 13.

The lunch-and-learn “Improving Your Memory” and a webinar “Sailing on: A Guide to Transitioning into Retirement” are among March offerings sponsored by the committee, too.

Employees earn prizes for wellness participation

Kelly Northey from enrollment management and Stephanie Stewart with the English Language Training Institute recently received prizes for their participation in the Wellness Points program sponsored by the Advisory Committee to the Chancellor for Employee Health and Wellness (ACCEHW).

Northey won a UNC Charlotte hooded sweatshirt, and Stewart earned a UNC Charlotte T-shirt. They also received Smoothie King coupons and gift cards.

Halton Arena to host Ebix Charity Challenge

Professional tennis player and North Carolina native John Isner is bringing his annual Ebix Charity Challenge to UNC Charlotte’s Halton Arena on Thursday, Feb. 4. Tickets for general admission start at $35; discounted tickets for UNC Charlotte faculty and staff start at $10. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.; the exhibition starts at 7:30 p.m.

‘Exercise Your Heart’ classes offered in February

February is considered national heart month, and the Advisory Committee to the Chancellor for Employee Health and Wellness is sponsoring a resistance band fitness class for faculty and staff members.

“Exercise Your Heart” will be held from 12:30 to 1 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 4, 11, 18 and 25, in the Cone University Center Lucas Room. The first 25 participants to register for the initial class will receive a free resistance band.

‘Emotional Intelligence’ subject of ACCEHW webinar

The Advisory Committee to the Chancellor for Employee Health and Wellness is sponsoring the webinar “Emotional Intelligence” at noon, Wednesday, Feb. 10.

Employees interesting in viewing this offering, which deals with identifying and managing one’s own emotions and those of others, should register online.

‘Spectacular’ Belk Gym lauded at re-opening celebration

A bigger, better Belk Gym was on display Monday as campus leaders, students, faculty and staff celebrated the re-opening of a facility built in 1970.

Learn how to let go of things

The Advisory Committee to the Chancellor for Employee Health and Wellness is sponsoring the lunch-and-learn program “Letting Go of the Things that Hold You Back” at noon, Thursday, Jan. 28, in the Student Union, Room 200.

A facilitator from ComPsych Guidance Resources Worldwide will lead this program. The University partners with ComPsych to provide Employee Assistance Program benefits to full-time, permanent employees.

Register for ‘Couch to 5K’ training program

On the Advisory Committee to the Chancellor for Employee Health and Wellness website, employees can register via email to receive tips, advice and resources to assist them in running a long-distance race, such as the 49er Gold Rush 5K.

An eight-week training session begins Monday, Dec. 14, and a four-week training one starts Monday, Jan. 11. Learn more here.

Free HIV testing on World AIDS Day

The Center for Wellness Promotion will partner with the Mecklenburg County Health Department on World AIDS Day to provide free HIV testing, educational information and giveaways. The event will be from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 1, in the Student Union Rotunda. Students, staff and faculty are all welcome at this Wellness Passport event.
