UNC Charlotte junior honored for community service
Junior Angelica Rose Brown has been recognized for outstanding leadership and service by North Carolina Campus Compact, a statewide network of colleges and universities with a shared commitment to community engagement. She is a recipient of the network’s Community Impact Award honoring one student leader at each member school.
Niner Student Pantry moves to new campus location
The Niner Student Pantry, established in fall 2014, recently held a grand opening for its new location, a house at 1224 John Kirk Drive. Learn more about the pantry through this short video.
Panel to explore religious and spiritual diversity
World religions take various approaches to answer the question “Is There Life after Death?” Representatives from the Christian, Jewish and Muslim faiths will share their perspectives on the afterlife in a panel discussion at 6:30 p.m., Monday, Oct. 19, in the Student Union Theater. The Office of Religious and Spiritual Life is sponsoring this event.

Workshops designed to help students achieve financial planning success
Many students enter and leave college unprepared to navigate the basics of financial planning and debt management. The Division of Student Affairs and Graduate School are cosponsoring two workshops led by financial literacy advisor Bryan Ashton on Thursday, Oct. 22.
“Teaching Financial Literacy to Students” (for faculty and staff interested in incorporating financial education into their program) will be at 10 a.m. in the Student Union, Room 265.
“Financial Planning Workshop” (for students, open to all) is scheduled for 2 p.m. in the Student Union Movie Theater.
University Career Center’s annual Majors Day scheduled
The University Career Center will hold Majors Day from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 28, in the Cone University Center, Lucas Room.
Majors Day is an annual event that helps UNC Charlotte students explore many of the 80-plus undergraduate majors and minors that the University offers, said Career Center officials. Faculty, advisors and current students representing all of the University’s academic colleges will be on hand to discuss programs.
Title IX workshops to focus on ‘The BasIX’ and ‘The DynamIX’
The Title IX Office and the Center for Wellness Promotion are sponsoring the two-part workshop series “Forty IXers: Know Your Title IX.” The first event, “The BasiIX” is scheduled for 6:30 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 14, in the College of Health and Human Services, Room 376. “The DynamIX” will be at 6:30 p.m., Oct. 21, in CHHS, Room 376.
Student project brings gardening to the elderly
Fourth-year architecture student and Levine Scholar Isabel Fee recently completed a community project funded through the Levine Scholars program. She designed and assisted in the construction of a special community garden at Brookdale Charlotte East, a senior living community near Albemarle Road.
The culmination of a three-year process, the raised-bed garden is designed for wheelchair accessibility, allowing Brookdale residents to actively participate in the gardening and to be physically closer to the plants and flowers to see, smell and enjoy.
Homecoming festivities to celebrate Niner Nation spirit
UNC Charlotte’s Homecoming Committee has planned a number of activities for the week leading up to this year’s Charlotte 49ers football game at noon, Saturday, Oct. 24, against the Southern Mississippi Eagles in Richardson Stadium.
Homecoming highlights include the Homecoming Lights Parade, an appearance by comedian Kenan Thompson and a Day of Service to benefit the UNC Charlotte Food Pantry.
Student Union Art Gallery displaying ‘Four Years of Anxiety’
The student art exhibition “Four Years of Anxiety” is on display through Saturday, Oct. 31, in the Student Union Art Gallery.
The exhibit features the work of UNC Charlotte seniors Joanna Zamora and Kaitlin Waddell, and it includes works they have completed during the course of their undergraduate careers. Each will graduate in December with a Bachelor of Fine Arts with a concentration in illustration.
SNL’s Kenan Thompson to headline Homecoming comedy show
“Saturday Night Live” comedian Kenan Thompson will perform at 8 p.m., Monday, Oct. 19, in the Student Union, Room 340, for the 2015 Homecoming Comedy Show sponsored by Campus Activities Board.
