Religious studies professor to address the rise of ISIS
As part of the 2016 Great Decisions Lecture Series, Kathryn Johnson, an associate professor in the Department of Religious Studies, will discuss the rise of ISIS at 6:30 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 17, at UNC Charlotte Center City.
Johnson, who joined the University faculty in 1988, teaches courses in Islamic studies.
UNC Charlotte granted new Carnegie Classification
Earlier this month, UNC Charlotte was categorized as a doctoral-granting institution with higher research activity by the Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education.
MBA named a ‘Tier 1’ program by CEO magazine
UNC Charlotte’s MBA again has been recognized as a top program in the country. CEO Magazine has ranked the Belk College of Business’ MBA in its “Tier 1” for North American universities in the newly released 2016 CEO Magazine Global MBA rankings.

Illinois State professor to talk about urban regionalism
Alan Lessoff, professor of history, Illinois State University, will present “Where Texas Meets the Sea: Corpus Christi, A Case Study in Southern and Southwestern Urban Regionalism” at 3:30 p.m., Monday, Feb. 15, in Fretwell Building, Room 114.
Lessoff was named the spring 2016 Obama Fellow at the Transnational Institute for American Studies at the Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz, Germany.

International festival to premiere film about Cold War experiences of University’s ‘eyewitness-in-residence’
A documentary that recounts the Cold War struggles of Mario Röllig, UNC Charlotte’s “College of Liberal Arts & Sciences eyewitness-in-residence,” will premiere during the 66th annual Berlin International Film Festival in mid-February. The documentary includes scenes filmed during a visit Röllig made to UNC Charlotte in 2014.
University video wins Gold MarCom Award
The six-minute University promotional film “Big Ideas, Big Future,” created by the Office of University Communications, recently received a national Gold MarCom Award for outstanding video by an educational institution.
University contributes to Bechtler exhibit
“The Art of the Print,” organized by Erik Waterkotte and assistant professor in the Department of Art + Art History, is on display through Sunday, June 19, at the Bechtler Museum of Modern Art.
The College of Arts + Architecture lent the museum specialized tools used in the four major types of printmaking: relief, intaglio, lithography and screen printing. In addition, the exhibit is displaying a worked woodblock and lithography stone with corresponding artwork printed from them by recent graduates Lauren Ernst and Andrew Steed.
Apply for Chancellor’s Diversity Challenge Fund
Monday, Feb. 29, is the deadline to apply for the Chancellor’s Diversity Challenge Fund.
The Council on University Community is accepting proposals for the fund, which supports initiatives that promote the daily value of diversity in the intellectual life of the campus. Faculty, staff or students are eligible to apply for awards of up to $5,000.
