First phase of ‘Engineering North Carolina’s Future’ faculty additions amplify Charlotte’s research, teaching efforts
The “Engineering North Carolina’s Future” initiative, backed by transformative investments by the N.C. General Assembly, has ignited a surge of teaching and research excellence in engineering, computer science and data science at UNC Charlotte. The University has strategically expanded its teaching and research capabilities with an initial recruitment of eight new faculty members, focused on four core themes: energy systems, transportation and advanced mobility, advanced manufacturing, and smart and sustainable cities.

Hague named to 2023 academic data leaders list

Byron White named a 2023-24 Campus Compact Fellow
Byron P. White, associate provost, urban research and community engagement for UNC Charlotte’s urbanCORE, has been named a 2023-24 Campus Compact Fellow.
Charlotte awarded tech strategy development grant from U.S. Economic Development Administration
UNC Charlotte has been awarded a Strategy Development Grant of $500,000 from the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Economic Development Administration.
The federal funding is part of the inaugural Tech Hubs program. The University is partnering with the Charlotte Regional Business Alliance; Centralina Regional Council; and more than 25 industry, academic institutions and workforce development organizations in North and South Carolina on the grant, which will launch the Carolinas Innovation Center for Optics and Metrology (CICOM) Consortium.
Susan Dodson DeVore Women’s Leadership Development Program established
A $1 million gift from UNC Charlotte alumna, business innovator and Board of Trustees emerita Susan Dodson DeVore ’81 will establish a leadership program that will support the next generation of women leaders.
