Partial closure of Institute Circle scheduled

On Thursday, Feb. 21, there will be a partial closure of Institute Circle to allow for work on a new entrance sign enclosure. Currently, this closure is tentatively scheduled for 7:30 to 11:30 a.m.

Expect barricades, flaggers and construction vehicles and personnel in this area. Exercise caution when approaching construction zones.

Gray needs shared leave

Kimberly Gray from the Office of Undergraduate Education needs shared leave donations. The Benefits Office will accept donations through Feb. 28.

Housing and Residence Life, Sustainability Office expand EcoReps program

This past fall, Housing and Residence Life and the Sustainability Office instituted a campus EcoReps pilot program with three students. Recently, the initiative added nine more participants.

A nationwide program, EcoReps provides an opportunity for students to assume a leadership role within their residence halls. Students provide peer-to-peer education to increase awareness of campus sustainability efforts.

HR extends deadline to submit Employee of the Year nominations

The Human Resources Department has extended the deadline for nominations for 2019 Staff Employee of the Year to Friday, Feb. 22. Any permanent employee of UNC Charlotte can submit a nomination, and employees are encouraged to recommend colleagues for this honor.

Individuals can be nominated in any one of five categories:

CATS to increase security for NBA All-Star Game, expect delays

Charlotte is hosting NBA All-Star 2019 events Friday through Sunday, Feb.15-17. An estimated 150,000 visitors are expected in the city during this time. As a result, the Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS) will make changes that may affect members of the University community.

Prohibited items on light rail: On Friday, Saturday and Sunday, beginning at 5 p.m. and continuing through the end of service each day, the following items will not be allowed on the train or at platforms:

UNC Charlotte again competing in Recyclemania

For the second year in a row, UNC Charlotte is participating in RecycleMania, which began Feb. 3 and runs through March 30. Colleges and universities across the United States and Canada compete in this event, including seven from the UNC System.

Based on last year’s results, the University’s goals for 2019 are:  

One Dalton Tower stairwell to be closed temporarily

Stairwell no. 3 that provides access to the Atkins Library’s Dalton Tower will be closed Monday, Feb. 11, through Friday, Feb. 15. This temporary closure is to install a new HVAC unit as part of the Atkins Library Special Collections project.

Signage will direct patrons to use Stairwell no. 4.
