Gene Johnson ’73 unveiled Johnson Alumni Way during Homecoming Saturday with the Pride of Niner Nation Marching Band watching. It was only fitting that the band be there; it was a generous donation from Gene and his wife Vickie ’71 ’82 that made the Pride of Niner Nation possible.

The Niner Nation Remembrance Commission is charged with leading a comprehensive process to determine how to best memorialize the lives of Reed Parlier and Riley Howell, the two students whose lives were tragically cut short on April 30; how to best remember the tragedy that occurred that day, a day that will forever be part of UNC Charlotte’s history; and what should be the future utilization of Kennedy Building, Room 236, the site of the shooting.

University response to plea agreement related to April 30

Dear UNC Charlotte Community,Today, the Mecklenburg County District Attorney’s office reached a plea agreement resulting in two life sentences for the individual responsible for the April 30 shooting on UNC Charlotte’s campus. While this news does not bring closure to the tragedy that occurred that day, it does bring a definite end to the criminal proceedings.

2019 Chancellor’s Reception scheduled

The Chancellor’s Reception, an annual staff recognition event, will be from 2 to 4 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 15, in the Popp Martin Student Union Multipurpose Room. Hosted by Chancellor Philip L. Dubois, this event provides employees an opportunity to socialize and network with colleagues. Light refreshments will be served; raffle tickets will be distributed at the door giving attendees the chance to win Niner prizes.

Search committee named for UNC Charlotte’s next chancellor

The University of North Carolina at Charlotte Board of Trustees has named its search committee to begin the process of recommending finalists for consideration to become the next chancellor of UNC Charlotte, following Philip L. Dubois’ previously announced plans to retire effective June 30, 2020.

Register for the Chancellor’s Fishing Derby

The fall semester is underway, which means the Chancellor’s Fishing Derby is coming up. This year’s event is set for Saturday, Sept. 14, at Hechenbleikner Lake.This family-friendly event is open to faculty and staff members and their guests.
