A group of Cato College of Education students and faculty members are back with memories of and insight into international teaching after a summer program in China and India
Where will students take their self(ie) next?
UNC Charlotte’s annual Study Abroad Fair is an opportunity for students to learn more about where they can study or intern abroad.
This year’s fair will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 26, in the food court of the Barnhardt Student Activity Center.
Students will be able to speak with staff members from the Office of Education Abroad to learn how to start the study abroad process as well as connect with UNC Charlotte study abroad alumni.
Lecture series to explore upcoming presidential election in Bosnia and Herzegovina
A series of five events this fall will focus on the campaign for and election of the tripartite presidency in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Mirsad Hadžikadić, a well-known UNC Charlotte professor, is one of the candidates.
Ambassador to discuss ‘Middle East Meltdown’
Ambassador Ryan Crocker will present “Middle East Meltdown: Causes and Consequences” at 3:30 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 5, in the Atkins Library, Halton Reading Room, as part of the fall 2018 International Speaker Series.
Graduate student receives national award
Rajan Puri, a doctoral student in mathematics, recently received the David Merchant International Student Award for Achievement from the Phi Beta Delta Honor Society for International Scholars. The award honors one international student who demonstrates exceptional accomplishments in the areas of scholarship and service.
University to observe International Education Week
The Office of International Programs, in collaboration with campus partners, will host the UNC Charlotte International Education Week celebration Monday through Friday, Nov. 13-17.
International Education Week is an annual showcase of the role universities hold in shaping global awareness and understanding. There are more than 15 engagement opportunities planned for the University’s celebration.
Goldfield talks presidential election in Russia
David Goldfield, the Robert Lee Bailey Professor of History, recently visited Russia as an academic specialist for the U.S. State Department.
He delivered the presentation “The Politics of Change in America,” which focused on the 2016 presidential election, at the Russian State University for the Humanities. Goldfield also conferred with the U.S. Ambassador to Russia John Tefft, during a reception at Spaso House.
In his role with the U.S. State Department, Goldfield travels abroad to lead seminars and workshops on various aspects of American political culture.
Cato College professor named Global Teacher Education Fellow
Erik Byker, an assistant professor in the Cato College of Education’s Department of Reading and Elementary Education, has been named a Global Teacher Education (GTE) Fellow.
Nominees accepted for University’s International Women’s Day observance, Turkish filmmaker to keynote
UNC Charlotte will hold its 12th annual campus recognition of International Women’s Day from 3:30 to 5 p.m., Tuesday, March 28, in the Student Union, Room 340.
Rare Roman gold coin found at Mount Zion archaeological dig
UNC Charlotte’s team that has conducted archaeological excavations on Mount Zion in Jerusalem announced the discovery of a rare gold coin bearing the image of the Roman Emperor Nero.
“The coin is exceptional, because this is the first time that a coin of this kind has turned up in Jerusalem in a scientific dig. Coins of this type are usually only found in private collections, where we don’t have clear evidence as to place of origin,” said Shimon Gibson, co-director of the excavation and a visiting professor at UNC Charlotte.
