The Center for Wellness Promotion will host its sixth annual OctSoberfest from 4 to 7 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 9, on the front recreational fields, to kick off National Collegiate Alcohol Awareness Month.
OctSoberfest is a wellness carnival-style program to educate students on the realities of alcohol consumption through various alcohol-free activities. There will be a a number of activities, including a drunk driving simulation, mock sobriety testing, cornhole, home run derby and gladiator jousting. Music, free food and beverages and giveaways will be provided too.

Nick Swardson and David Koechner will perform at 8 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 10, in the Student Union Multipurpose Room, as part of the Homecoming Comedy Show sponsored by the Campus Activities Board. Doors will open at 7:30 p.m.
Swardson, a comedian, actor and writer/producer, has appeared in “Grandma’s Boy,” Grown Ups,” “I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry” and “Blades of Glory.” In addition, he has performed on Comedy Central shows “Pretend Time with Nick Swardson.” Currently, he is working on the animated show “CHOZEN.”

The Charlotte 49ers inaugural football season is underway, and Niner spirit is at an all-time high leading up to celebrations and activities planned for the Oct. 12 Homecoming game against UNC Pembroke.

Emmanuel Bello-Ogunu, a doctoral student in the College of Computing and Informatics (CCI), is the 2013-14 recipient of a Google United Negro College Fund  (UNCF) Scholarship. This $10,000 award, funded in part by the UNCF, is presented annually to a select group of African American students pursuing a computer science/engineering degree.

The Multicultural Resource Center is hosting a screening of the documentary “Brother Outsider: The Life of Bayard Rustin” at 6 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 18, in the Cone University Center, Room 320.

UNC Charlotte and Sarajevo School of Science and Technology (SSST) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to initiate joint projects and to partner on scientific research programs common to both institutions.

As part of the University’s celebration of Asian Pacific American Heritage Month, the Multicultural Resource Center will host “The State of Asian Affairs in Charlotte” at 7 p.m., Wednesday, April 10, in Student Union, Room 200.

The UNC Charlotte Iranian Student Organization will hold its Sizdah Bedar (spring picnic) celebration from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, March 30, at Reedy Creek Park, Shelter No. 4.
Sizdah Bedar is a ceremony in the Persian culture. It is held on the 13 day of spring, which is also the13th day of the first month of the Persian New Year (Farfardeen).  

In partnership with the Regional Interfaith Aids Network (RAIN), the Multicultural Resource Center (MRC) will host the free, public screening of “Positive Youth” at 3 p.m., Sunday, March 24, in Cone University Center McKnight Hall.

Diversity trainer Lee Mun Wah will present “Changing Our Heads, Hearts and Hands – From the Inside Out,” an interactive multicultural learning program designed for faculty, staff and the community from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Wednesday, March 20, in the Student Union.  Registration is required.
This half-day training is free for faculty and staff and $30 for public/community members. A continental breakfast during check-in is included.
