CHHS receives scholarship funding from White Foundation

The College of Health and Human Services has received a grant from the Lettie Pate White Foundation to benefit students in the nursing and allied health professions.

For the current academic year, the White Foundation has pledged more than $160,000, which will provide scholarships for female students with demonstrated financial need. To date, the foundation has awarded more than $1 million to the college.

Local entrepreneur to discuss ‘Her Story, Her Journey’

Dee Dixon, a successful Charlotte entrepreneur, will present “Her Story, Her Journey” at 2 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 26, in the Halton Reading Room of the J. Murrey Atkins Library in celebration of Black History Month.

Bell ringing to celebrate 50th year in UNC system

Members of the campus community are invited to celebrate the University’s 50th year as part of the UNC system at 2 p.m., Monday, March 2, in the Student Union Rotunda.

On March 2, 1965, the N.C. House of Representatives passed a bill designating Charlotte College as the University of North Carolina at Charlotte effective July 1, 1965. According to the Charlotte Collegian, news of the bill’s passage was greeted on campus with “bell ringing, cheers, shouts and tears of happiness.”

UNC Charlotte yields strong ROI, economic impact study finds

UNC Charlotte provides a healthy return on investment and net economic value to the Charlotte region, based on an economic impact study released today. Among the findings: for fiscal year 2012-2013, the accumulated contribution of UNC Charlotte  to the region in terms of payroll, operation, construction, and start-up companies was $2.1 billion.  For that same period, UNC Charlotte alumni currently employed in the Charlotte Service Region contributed $1.4 billion in added regional income.

Apply for Chancellor’s Diversity Challenge Fund grants

 The Council on University Community is accepting proposals for the Chancellor’s Diversity Challenge Fund through Tuesday, March 17.

 The fund supports initiatives that promote the daily value of diversity in the intellectual life of the campus. Faculty, staff or students are eligible to apply for awards of up to $5,000.

ACCEHW offering programs, webinar in March

The Advisory Committee to the Chancellor for Employee Health and Wellness (ACCEHW) has a number of programs scheduled for March.

 On Wednesday, March 4, the lunch-and-learn “Parenting Your College-age Children” will be from noon to 1 p.m., in the Student Union, Room 200. Register to attend online.

UNC Board of Governors to meet at UNC Charlotte

UNC Charlotte will host the UNC Board of Governors Thursday and Friday, Feb. 26-27.

It is considered a great honor for a constituent institution to have the governing board of the UNC system on its campus.
