C-USA football broadcast schedule includes each 49ers game
Each of the Charlotte 49ers eight Conference USA games as well as both of its non-conference home games will be broadcast by a C-USA partner during the 2018 football season.
Architecture grad receives Emerging City Champions Fellowship
Amir Naeem, a recent graduate from the School of Architecture in the College of Arts + Architecture, has received a 2018 Emerging City Champions Fellowship from the Knight Foundation.
He will receive $5,000 for his proposal to place jukeboxes in public spaces along the CATS LYNX Blue Line. The jukeboxes will play music after users provide an idea or thought about the community. He developed his project concept while a student in Associate Professor Deb Ryan’s fifth-year architecture studio.
First endowed Gold Rush Grant honors World War II veteran
Jeanette Sims, senior director of Community Relations and University Events, recently honored her father, the late J. Bryan Sims, by endowing a Gold Rush Grant in his name.

Former 49ers defensive back makes CFL debut with Toronto Argonauts
Anthony Covington, a former Charlotte 49ers defensive back, recently made his professional debut in the Canadian Football League with the Toronto Argonauts in the team’s first preseason game.
Covington, who had three tackles in the contest, played in 29 games in three seasons with the 49ers, making 15 starts. He is the 49ers all-time leader with 17 career pass breakups (PBU). He amassed 85 tackles in his career with two interceptions, a fumble recovery and a forced fumble. In addition to his role as a defensive back, Covington saw time as a kick returner.
N.C. General Assembly passes 2018-19 state budget
The North Carolina General Assembly has ratified and forwarded to Gov. Roy Cooper its budget proposal for 2018-19. While the legislation includes the enrollment funding for UNC System campuses appropriated in the two-year budget approved last year, it also contains an $800,000 recurring cut to UNC Charlotte’s budget.
Campus community says ‘Bon Voyage’ to Pride of Niner Nation Marching Band
On May 31, 137 members of the Pride of Niner Nation Marching Band departed from campus to begin a journey to Normandy, France, where they will be the first university band from North Carolina to represent the United States at an annual commemoration of the D-Day invasion.

Register to attend Charlotte Sustainability Summit
The Integrated Network for Social Sustainability (INSS) and Sustain Charlotte are partnering to host the 2018 Charlotte Sustainability Summit, scheduled for Thursday through Saturday, June 7-9, at UNC Charlotte Center City.
This three-day summit will include presentations of student research, a film, discussions, workshops and talks that highlight the impact of collaborative efforts to advance sustainability in Charlotte.
