UNC Charlotte employees can join in an annual tradition of food, games and contests as the Staff Council has set Tuesday, Oct. 8, as the date for this year’s Fall Festival.
Football is a new fall tradition that is underway; another annual event is the Giving Green Campaign – the University’s centralized, unified effort to support the State Employees Combined Campaign (SECC), the Arts & Science Council (ASC) and the UNC Charlotte Foundation.
Hui-Kuan “Alice” Tseng, an associate professor of economics in the Belk College of Business, is among the five finalists for the Bank of America Award for Teaching Excellence, the University’s highest teaching honor. The 2013 recipient will be named at a Sept. 20 reception; Inside UNC Charlotte is featuring each finalist in alphabetical order before the event.
The UNC Charlotte Film Studies program, College of Arts + Architecture and the Charlotte Film Society will present a series of films, which kicks off on Saturday, Sept. 14 The four-film “Cinematic Experience" will introduce attendees to a collection of documentary films that explore the nature of how individuals consume, experience and respond to cinema.
Balaka Basu, a faculty member in the English Department, is co-editor of the recently published “Contemporary Dystopian Fiction for Young Adults: Brave New Teenagers.” The book is the latest volume in Routledge's Children's Literature and Culture Series, and it includes a chapter by Basu titled "What Faction Are You In? The Pleasure of Being Sorted in Veronica Roth's ‘Divergent.’"
Jonathan Marks, a professor of anthropology, will share the story behind his lively and provocative book “Why I Am Not a Scientist: Anthropology and Modern Knowledge” at the first of the 2013-14 Personally Speaking community talks, scheduled for 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 24, at UNC Charlotte Center City.
Jim Hartman a member of corporate business development for Controls Southeast Inc. will discuss “Practical Management Issues in Transforming a Business from Domestic to International Focus” at 5:30 p.m., Monday, Sept. 16, in Cameron Applied Research Center, Room 101.
Red-shirt freshman Matt Johnson threw for five touchdowns and the 49ers defense established the tone early to create five turnovers as Charlotte routed Chowan 47-7 in the second game of the 49ers inaugural season in front of a standing room only crowd of 16,598.
Akin Ogundiran, chair of the Africana Studies Department, will present the free, public lecture “Brass, Glass, Terracotta: Crafts of Power and Authority in Classical Yoruba Civilization” at 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 10, at the Belk Visual Arts Center, Room 117, in Davidson.
