April is North Carolina Science Festival time, and UNC Charlotte will hold a series of public lectures entitled “Research Journeys” to educate and inform the community about a variety of science topics.

The seventh biennial Persian culture program will be at 4 p.m., Sunday, April 14, in the Rowe Arts Building Recital Hall.

John Smail is now the associate provost for undergraduate studies and dean of University College. According to the Office of Academic Affairs, this new title recognizes the work Smail was doing across campus to improve undergraduate student success. 

Christina Neitzey, a junior from Hampstead, is among the 2013 class of 181Newman Civic Fellows as determined nationwide by Campus Compact, a coalition of nearly 1,200 college and university presidents.

UNC Charlotte recently received approval from the City of Charlotte to rename High Rise Road to Alumni Way to honor the contributions of all University alumni.

Nationally noted independent historian and author Pamela Grundy will speak on “Sports and the Building of the Modern South” at 7 p.m., Monday, April 15, at the Levine Museum of the New South.

The UNC Charlotte chapter of “To Write Love on Her Arms” will welcome organization founder Jamie Tworkowski on Tuesday, April 2, as he presents “Pain, Hope, Questions and Community” at 7 p.m. in the Student Union Movie Theater.

The Multicultural Resource Center’s annual Civility Week will feature an array of programs and events focused on reminding the University community about the value and virtue of civility.

Stephen Brereton and Eli Groner will deliver the final presentations in the fifth annual International Speaker Series. The talks will be at 3:30 p.m., April 3 and 11, respectively, in Atkins Library, Halton Reading Room.

The Charlotte 49ers women’s basketball team won another hard-fought contest against cross-county rival Davidson on Sunday to advance to the WNIT Sweet 16 for the second time in program history.

UNC Charlotte will celebrate International Women's Day (IWD) from 3:30 to 5 p.m., Thursday, March 28, in the Student Union, Room 340.  This annual event includes historical and cultural information as well as a recognition ceremony to honor faculty, staff and students who have been nominated for their impact on the lives of women locally and globally.
